The Three Daggers is a modern British pub and inn, tracing its history back to the 18th Century, set in the historical village of Edington in rural Wiltshire. The site is home to three beautifully decorated rooms, self-catering cottages, the Three Daggers Farm Shop, Three Daggers Brewery and an award-winning, farm-to-fork country pub that champions local produce, much of which is grown on their own farm in the village.

The inn sits on the site of the Battle of Edington (878 AD) - one of the most formative yet least known battles in British history. It is also a short distance from other historic and World Heritage listed sites including Stonehenge, Bath, Salisbury and Avebury.

The Three Daggers Inn

Steeped in character, the award-winning Three Daggers Inn is a traditional country pub with charming rooms and three separate self-catering cottages.

The inn has three guest bedrooms - Coulston, Priory and Tinhead - which have been beautifully restored with modern touches whilst maintaining the rustic charm of the original 18th Century design. Guests can unwind in the homely shared living space and are also invited to enjoy a complimentary breakfast in The Three Daggers Pub.

Edington Cottages

Guests seeking more private, self-contained accommodation options have the choice between three luxury cottages in Edington - Orchard House, Brewhouse and the newly refurbished Hillside Cottage. Each cottage has been lovingly and carefully restored to maintain the historic architecture including original wooden beams, wood burning stoves and open stone fireplaces whilst also creating a sanctuary with every modern convenience.

The beautiful Hillside Cottage has the warmth and character of a family home with the luxuries of a hotel. With six rooms for 12 guests, visitors can enjoy the splendid views of the rolling, bucolic Wiltshire landscape from the stunning al fresco patio which comes complete with BBQ, private steam room and sauna, outdoor plunge pool and hot tub. Hillside Cottage guests also have exclusive access to a croquet lawn, bocce ball court and the Trailhead Cabin; an entertaining space with expansive views of Edington, complete with games, amenities and an outdoor fire pit. A Barbour for each guest also hangs in the vestibule ready for outdoor walks and country pursuits.

Orchard House was originally the gatehouse for the neighbouring Edington Priory. This impressive historic property dates from the 1700s and offers three double rooms and one twin room, comfortably sleeping eight guests. The property boasts a rustic kitchen with a double size electric Aga, high-beamed ceilings and a large garden featuring a gas BBQ, lounge chairs and fire pit. The secluded garden overlooks the beautiful Priory Orchard, filled with blossoms in spring and apples in autumn.

For groups of four, the Brewhouse Cottage is an excellent option for smaller getaways. This quaint, cosy cottage is intermingled with modern touches - such as a private games room, featuring a dart board, foosball table, board games, fridge and seating for all and has its own tucked away private patio with a gas BBQ.

For larger groups Brewhouse and Orchard House can also be combined to sleep up to 12 guests.

DINING

The Three Daggers Pub and Woodshed

The award-winning Three Daggers Pub celebrates the abundance of the great British larder, offering a seasonal farm-to-fork menu that highlights ingredients grown on-site at Edington Priory Farm and from neighbouring Wiltshire suppliers, alongside a range of cocktails and beers brewed on-site in the Three Daggers Brewery.

Head Chef Simon Mealing works closely with the Priory Farm gardening team and Head Gardener Arek Adamczak to grow much of the fruit, vegetables and herbs served on the pub’s seasonal menu, ensuring provenance, quality and hyperlocal produce measured in food metres rather than miles.

The pub is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with sample dishes including: Oxtail croquettes with chilli honey and pickled radish; Heritage beetroot terrine with salt baked beetroot and whipped goats curd and Wiltshire lamb rump with black garlic puree, hasselback potatoes and lamb bon bon alongside the Three Daggers classics such as: Daggers ale battered haddock with tartare sauce, mushy peas and triple cooked chips and the Three Daggers cheese & bacon burger with relish and skinny fries.

The pub has held 2 AA Rosettes for culinary excellence since 2019 alongside 5 Gold Stars from the AA for accommodation excellence. It was also the winner of the prestigious ‘England Pub of the Year Award’ in 2020.

Outside the Three Daggers Pub is the Woodshed; a wooden hut serving draught beers and fire-roasted, hand-stretched sourdough pizzas from a wood-fired pizza oven throughout the Summer.

The Three Daggers Farm Shop

Housed in an oak-framed building adjoining the Three Daggers Brewery, the Three Daggers Farm Shop champions great British farms, local Wiltshire suppliers and fresh fruit and vegetables grown on Priory Farm, offering a wide array of local seasonal produce, fresh foods and gifts.

The Farm Shop also offers freshly-made salads, hearty British snacks and baked goods made in house by the Three Daggers chef team, alongside beautifully crafted artisan gifts from local craftspeople. Food can be enjoyed al fresco on the Farm Shop’s two outdoor sitting areas alongside coffee, tea, milkshakes and smoothies.

The Three Daggers Brewery

The Three Daggers Brewery is a nano-brewery established in 2013 and led by Head Brewer Ricky Carr. Ricky brews a range of real ales using local hops and maltings alongside seasonal and celebration ales including the Ethandun 878 - inspired by the Battle of Edington in AD 878.

The core range includes the award-winning Daggers Black (4.5% Stout); best-selling Daggers Ale (4.1% Bitter); Daggers Edge (4.7% Bitter) and Daggers Blonde (3.6% Pale Ale). Beers can be enjoyed in the pub, bought in cans, boxes and growlers from the Farm Shop or the Three Daggers travelling Beer Bus.

The beers are stocked in pubs, taprooms and farm shops throughout London and the South West.

Wellness Barn

Across the road from the Three Daggers Pub and Farm Shop is the Wellness Barn, a beautiful, serene spa that offers a luxurious range of holistic treatments such as Swedish massages, hot stone massages, Indian head massages, deep tissue sports massage, facial massages, and wellness activities including yoga, pilates and morning stretch sessions.

ACTIVITIES

The Three Daggers offers a range of country pursuits, collaborative ventures and wellness affairs, with many suitable for families.

Activities are either held on-site or through a network of local businesses with options including brewery tours, foraging adventures, mountain biking, 4x4 off-roading, clay pigeon shooting and fishing.

HISTORY

Set against a landscape of rich history, The Three Daggers is located on the grounds of the Battle of Edington (878 AD) - one of the most important battles in British history and which saw Alfred The Great’s army beat the Viking Great horde led by the Dane Guthrum to secure Anglo-Saxon independence.

Originally named ‘The Lamb’ in the 1700s, The Three Daggers inn started life as a prominent resting place for shepherds on the turnpike road between Salisbury and Bath. In the 1750s the Lord of Edington Manor, Lord Harry Paulet, bought and expanded the pub. The Paulet family also owned The Priory House, now a Grade I-listed private house on the grounds of the Priory Farm. The Three Daggers emblem appeared on the Paulet family crest - the emblem which now lends itself to the inn’s contemporary name.

Alongside Stonehenge, Bath and Avebury, the inn is also situated near local points of historical significance including the 14th-century Edington Priory Church, Salisbury Plains and Westbury White Horse.
