This February, TEMAKI will open on Mayfair’s Maddox Street, led by A.M. Dupee, who created the cult handroll bar that was originally in Brixton. First launched in summer 2021 and inspired by California’s handroll bars, Temaki quickly earned a loyal following, and will now re-enter London’s dining scene in a new and bigger Central London home. Temaki will bring elevated classic Japanese dishes blended with a relaxed Californian approach that is in keeping with the quality of produce and atmospheres adopted across the US West coast.
While Temaki takes its name from te (hand) and maki (roll), the menu has naturally expanded beyond handrolls alone. In Mayfair, the emphasis shifts toward a broader selection of Japanese small plates designed for sharing, alongside signature temaki. Expect Temaki’s crispy rice topped with premium cuts of fish, A4 wagyu sliders, and revolving sandos and toro. Complementing the food will be a curated wine list, Japanese saké, and a succinct cocktail menu.
The restaurant spans two levels. Upstairs, an intimate dining room seats just 16 guests around a counter overlooking the chefs at work - a nod to traditional Japanese dining practices. Downstairs is a 28 seat space which takes inspiration from Japan’s listening bars, and will also be available for private dining.
Founder A.M. Dupee says ‘We loved our time in Brixton, and with our new creative team we are so excited to build on that success in central London, on Mayfair’s Maddox Street. We’ve been working on some fun new dishes and will of course serve our signature handrolls - I can’t wait to open the doors!’.
Sarah McLaren, Hospitality and Leisure Leasing Director at The Crown Estate, commented, "We are excited to welcome Temaki to the West End. It is a great example of a rapidly growing independent operator which is ready to establish itself in the heart of London. We are dedicated to supporting the hospitality industry by continuing to curate a portfolio of new, growing and established brands to cater to a diverse audience".
Temaki will open on the Crown Estate’s Maddox Street in February 2026. The restaurant will be open daily for lunch between 12pm - 3pm and for dinner 5pm - 10pm.
