The pacing of tasting menus is a big factor in the overall experience. At Ynyshir the hours fly by and you remain engaged and captivated throughout. Starting your experience in the bar before getting a tour of the grounds, a demonstration from Gareth mid-meal and then settling into the restaurant for the remainder of the evening keeps it exhilarating throughout.
The in-house DJ means that not only is the music excellent, but the volume, tempo and quality of the sound is so brilliantly considered. Gareth and the DJ interact throughout the meal too - it's great to be privy to that relationship, and you can witness just how much of a collaborative and collegiate place Ynyshir is.
Chefs serving food directly to guests can be a mixed experience; some are much more comfortable working back-of-house. At Ynyshir a quiet confidence runs throughout the entire team and these interactions are an extension of the front of house's style: calm, accessible, unfussy and knowledgeable.
