On 20th September 2019, London Bridge Open Kitchen saw a selection of London Bridge’s top restaurants and bars come together for a one day only festival that celebrates the vibrant food and drink culture of the area. This year, located in the impressive al fresco Guy’s Courtyard beside Science Gallery London at the food of the Shard; London Bridge Open Kitchen transformed the space into a buzzing all-day event with food stalls, pop-up bars and live music, from 12 noon until late.
Organised and hosted by Team London Bridge, the annual foodie event celebrates the dynamic dining scene of London Bridge and its surrounds, cementing the area as one of the capital’s major food and drink hubs. The food stalls bring together an eclectic mix of flavours from around the world, with neighbouring local restaurants such as Santo Remedio, BOB’s Lobster, Kin + Deum, The Coal Shed and Rosa’s Thai Cafe showcasing their signature dishes.
London Bridge Open Kitchen runs from lunch right through until dinner - making it the perfect spot for that leisurely Friday lunch break, flowing into the evening with drinks from local bars and some of the best food the capital has to offer, with dishes such as the signature Ahi Tuna Tacos from BOB’s Lobster, Pork Belly Tacos with chicharron and salsa verde from Santo Remedio and freshly prepared sushi from Temakinho.
For the first time, London Bridge Open Kitchen teamed up with Bermondsey craft beer and skate brand, Hop King, who bought their outstanding Pale Ale from Druid Street archway, along with their very own skateboards available to buy. For those looking for a non-alcoholic option, Everleaf were on hand with their botanical aperitifs, perfect for a complex spritz made with the finest natural ingredients.
This year’s restaurant line-up included a mix of local independent restaurants and bars as well as some of our well-loved favourites; with recent additions such Japanese-Brazilian restaurant Temakinho at One Tower Bridge.
The participating restaurants and bars included:
- BOB’s Lobster - Indulgent fresh-seafood destination, specialising in lobster rolls and tuna tacos
- Santo Remedio - Mexican street food with a modern twist
- Kin + Deum - Modern Thai restaurant with Bangkok inspired food
- The Coal Shed - Rustic, coal roasted food, focussing on great quality beef
- Rosa’s Thai Cafe - The nation’s favourite authentic Thai cuisine
- Temakinho - Japanese food, the Brazilian way
- Baluchi - A Pan Indian destination at The LaLiT London
- Savanna - The best of South African cuisine
- El Vino - Wine bar serving sangria, Lola y Vera G&T's and Portuguese & Latin American snacks
- Brigade Bar + Kitchen - Social Enterprise with a love of British ingredients
- TwoRuba - Expertly crafted cocktails and prosecco
- The Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) - interactive wine and spirit tasting workshops
- Hop King - Craft beer and skate brand
- Everleaf - Non-alcoholic bittersweet aperitif drink made from sustainably sourced botanicals
Entry to London Bridge Open Kitchen is completely free and guests can indulge in a selection of dishes from just £5. This year Science Gallery London also stayed open late for guests at London Bridge Open Kitchen, showcasing their current exhibition and events season.
In addition to the festival, Team London Bridge have created a ‘London Bridge Open Kitchen’ cookbook; showcasing different recipes from the participating restaurants, cementing London Bridge as one of London’s top food and drink destinations all year round.
