On 8th September, Eroshan and Aushi Meewella will open the doors to ADOH!, a new Sri Lankan street food concept in the West End. Set on Covent Garden’s Maiden Lane, ADOH! will draw inspiration from Sri Lanka's colourful roadside eateries, venturing beyond the island’s home cooking traditions. Building on the success of their Kolamba restaurants - first launched on Kingly Street in Soho in 2019, and followed by Kolamba East in Shoreditch in 2024 - the Meewellas will now bring another facet of their culinary heritage to London.
Named after a popular Sri Lankan exclamation used in greeting or surprise, ADOH! will channel the energy of the island’s street food culture with a menu of comforting favourites, designed for quick, hearty eating. Central to the restaurant’s offering will be kothu (kot-thu): a dish of chopped roti, vegetables, and eggs, tossed together on a grill and finished with curry sauce. Derived from the Tamil word meaning ‘to chop’, the kothu’s at ADOH! will be available in four different versions: crab, chicken, mutton and jackfruit – and served just as they are in Sri Lanka.
Further menu items will include well-loved Sri Lankan snacks like crispy Mutton rolls; Devilled sausages; and Vadai, savoury lentil doughnuts served with tomato, coconut, and mint chutneys, as well as Chilli prawn toast with tamarind sauce, a coastal favourite typical of Galle’s street corners. Guests will also be able to enjoy Fried chicken with curry leaf waffle, a nostalgic addition inspired by Aushi’s childhood, as well as a local favourite Roadside seafood fried rice. For dessert, a Salted jaggery soft serve brings a playful take to the ice-cream van favourite, featuring the traditional, caramel-like syrup from the island. To wash it all down, ADOH! will offer the customary Sri Lankan pairing of draught beer, as well as a concise selection of wine, cocktails and soft drinks.
The Meewellas pursued an authentic approach in creating the ADOH! brand, enlisting Sri Lankan native and Creative Strategist Leah Marikkar, who worked alongside Fold Media Collective to shape the visual identity. Inspired by traditional Sri Lankan lorry art and the island’s street food culture, ADOH!’s aesthetic blends hand-drawn illustrations, bold typography, and a warm palette of red, teal and yellow to capture the chaos and vibrancy of Colombo’s streets.
Designed for casual dining, ADOH! will be walk-in only, welcoming guests for both lunch and dinner, seven days a week. The 70-cover space, designed by Whitebox London in collaboration with Fold Media Collective, draws from the visual language of the island and includes a special commission of two custom murals by Sri Lankan artist Ruwangi “Roo” Amarasinghe. The interiors, along with an additional 12 al fresco covers, embrace an industrial aesthetic where stripped-back finishes meet raw materials like stainless steel, corrugated metal sheeting, and utilitarian plastics, creating a space that feels both playful and provocative.
To welcome its first guests on 8th September, ADOH! will give away 100 complimentary portions of its signature snack, Vadai (savoury lentil doughnuts), when doors open at 11.30am.
