From 3rd September, Notting Hill contemporary ocakbasi restaurant The Counter will introduce Aegean Sundays, a new Sunday menu exploring the coastal cuisine of Turkey. The feasting menu will celebrate the food of the Aegean Region, the home of The Counter’s lauded chef-founder Kemal Demirasal. Kemal will put a contemporary twist on the traditional seafood dishes of his native region, which is famed for its crystal clear blue seas and beautiful coastline.

Available every Sunday, the menu will offer a selection of 12 dishes designed to share family-style. The Aegean Sundays menu aims to showcase the diversity of Turkish regional cuisines, marking a departure from the restaurant’s usual Southeastern Anatolian food which, as a mountainous region, does not traditionally include fish.

The meal begins with Sourdough, Bottarga (Kefal Yumurtası, Ekşimaya), alongside a selection of dips including Tarama Salad (Tarama Salata), Fava Beans (Tekmil Fava) with red onion and dill, Aubergine Salad (Patlıcanlı Atom) with a chilli dressing, and Pickle Tzatziki (Kuru Cacık). These come alongside fresh and bright salads, including a Samphire Salad (Deniz Börülcesi Salatası) with radish and almond, and a classic Horiatiki Salad (Çoban Salata), with tomato, cucumber, olives and feta cheese.

For the main event, guests can enjoy the likes of Fried Squid (Kalamar Tava) and Sauteed Prawns (Tereyağlı Karides) flavoured with garlic butter, lemon and flambéed in cognac, alongside a choice of Fish of The Day (Günün Balığı) or Lamb Chops (Kuzu Pirzola) to share. For dessert, Baked Halva (Fırında Helva), a classic Middle Eastern sweet made with tahini.

The menu is priced at £50 per person for food only, but for £70 per person, guests can also enjoy an additional bottle of paired premium white wine to share between two, with a choice of either a Greek or Turkish white. Alternatively, diners can opt to enjoy their meal with a carafe of Yeni Rakı Uzun Demleme between two, exploring the traditional Turkish grape spirit that is served at almost every meal.

Aegean Sundays will run every Sunday from 3rd September (in place of an a la carte menu) at The Counter, 108 Golborne Road, W10 5PS. Bookings can be made via the dedicated booking form on the website HERE
